The Miami Heat scored 86 opening half points versus the Memphis Grizzlies

The Heat earned a decisive 146 to 114 victory against the Grizzlies in their first basketball game since guard Terry Rozier was detained over alleged illegal sports betting.

Portland Trail Blazers coach Chauncey Billups was additionally arrested in connection with a broad federal investigation into illegal gambling. The two individuals contest the claims.

"Everyone experienced great experiences with Chauncey and his coaching style," Splitter remarked. "We're thinking of him and his loved ones but our focus is on the game."

League Commissioner Adam Silver 'Upset' over Arrests

Speaking about the detentions for the initial occasion, NBA commissioner Adam Silver said he was "very upset" by the incidents of the recent days.

"Nothing is more critical to the NBA and its fans than the fairness of the game," he informed a broadcaster. "Therefore I felt uneasy. It was very upsetting."

The commissioner also mentioned an NBA investigation into Rozier's conduct in March 2023, when there was "unusual wagering" in a game he played for the Hornets versus the New Orleans Pelicans, found nothing untoward.

"It was brought to our attention by the regulators and the betting companies," he continued.

"We then looked into the matter and were very transparent about it. Although there was that aberrational betting, we, honestly, couldn't find anything.

"Federal authorities has legal authority... [it] can impose penalties, can take various actions that the NBA can't do.

"So, we've been working with them from that point. Naturally, what they revealed yesterday was an indictment.

"And 30 months later, he still hasn't been convicted of any offense, in justice to Rozier.

"Obviously, it appears unfavorable, but he's been put on administrative leave, and so it is a balance in this case between upholding rights and investigating."

In other games, Los Angeles Lakers star Doncic scored over forty points for the second game straight to begin the campaign.
