Top-ranked Sabalenka Claims Consecutive WTA Top Player Awards.
The top-ranked player Aryna Sabalenka has been selected the Women's Tennis Association player of the year for a second straight season.
The twenty-seven-year-old captured four tournament victories – the most on tour – which included retaining the US Open in September versus Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth Grand Slam singles championship.
A Year of High Performance
Across the season, Sabalenka played in a tour-best nine championship matches, with defeats coming against Madison Keys in the Australian Open final at the start of the year and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The star player also won the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open as the clay season progressed. She remained the whole season as the top-ranked player, concluding 2025 on top of the rankings for a second successive year.
This past summer, she achieved the status of being the first athlete to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Historic Numbers
Sabalenka ended the competitive year with a sixty-three to twelve match record, and earned a record £11m in tournament winnings.
She received nearly 80% of the votes cast by international tennis media.
Later this month, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon finalist Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match in a bid to "help bring women's tennis to a higher level".
Additional WTA Award Winners
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, 28, received the award after taking a 13-month break following the birth of her first child and returning to the sport at the start of this year.
- Fresh Face of the Year: Canadian 19-year-old Victoria Mboko picked up the award after starting the season positioned beyond the world's top 300 and soaring to the eighteenth spot.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were selected after securing their second career Grand Slam title together.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after making five finals.
Recently, Carlos Alcaraz took home three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, which included the year-end number one award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as the fan favorite for a third time.
